Who’s Standing in Intermarché–Wanty’s Way This July?

Every Tour squad has its targets, its bogeymen, and those inevitable moments when tactics are dictated by the jersey you’re chasing. For Intermarché–Wanty, 2025’s Tour peloton is stacked with big hitters — and knowing who to watch is half the battle. Here’s the hit list they’ll be shadowing all July:

🏆 The Sprint Titans Girmay Must Outsmart

If Biniam Girmay is going to bag those sprint wins and chase green, he’ll need to outgun some of the fastest men on two wheels:

  • Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) — The Tour’s reigning sprint king.
  • Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny) — Belgian bulldog, relentless in bunch finishes.
  • Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) — Hungry, rejuvenated, and fast.
  • Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) — Can win from sprints or reduced groups.

Intermarché–Wanty Gameplan:

Use Rex, Braet, and Page to control positioning early, then launch Girmay early when chaos breaks.

Breakaway & Climbing Killers Zimmermann Has to Outslick

For those mountain breakaways, Zimmermann will be squaring up against other opportunists:

  • Matej Mohorič (Bahrain Victorious) — Breakaway artist, descender from hell.
  • Ben Healy (EF Education–EasyPost) — Aggressive climber with a sprint.
  • Neilson Powless (EF Education–EasyPost) — Can climb, TT, and hold long moves.
  • Tiesj Benoot (Visma | Lease a Bike) — Diesel engine for mountainous raids.

Gameplan:

Mark them in key moves, pick the right wheel, and avoid towing them to the line.

Echelon Enforcers to Watch in Crosswinds

On those dicey flat days with ripping crosswinds, these are the guys who’ll try to rip the peloton apart:

  • Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike)
  • Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek)
  • Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck)

Intermarché’s Advantage:

They live for these days. Rex, Rutsch, and Braet will love nothing more than snapping the race in half alongside them — but it’s about having Girmay right there.

🎯 GC Contenders: No Direct Threat, but Tactical Leverage

While Intermarché–Wanty isn’t fielding a GC man, knowing when to attack when the GC guys are busy can mean the difference between a stage win and pack-fodder.

2025 Big 3:

  • Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike)
  • Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates)
  • Carlos Rodríguez (INEOS Grenadiers)

Gameplan:

Attack when these guys eye each other on mid-mountain days or transitional stages.
