Florian Lipowitz: The Breakout Star Who Crashed the Podium at the Tour de France 2025

The New Face of Grand Tour Podiums
In a Tour dominated once again by the titans Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard, a third name quietly fought its way into the elite: Florian Lipowitz. The 24-year-old German climber from Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe completed a remarkable three-week ride to finish 3rd overall and clinch the white jersey for best young rider in the 2025 Tour de France.

A Tour De Force by a Rising Star
Lipowitz was already seen as a rider on the rise after finishing 7th at the Vuelta a España 2024 and stepping onto the Dauphiné podium earlier this year. But few expected him to hold his own against the two Tour de France juggernauts.
“It was a tough three weeks. I just wanted to get to the finish line safely,” Lipowitz reflected modestly in Paris. “There were many ups and downs, and the start wasn’t ideal. But we grew closer and closer as a team. That’s why I want to say thank you to everyone again.”

A Podium Selfie and a Dream Realized
Team boss Ralph Denk celebrated Lipowitz’s historic third place: “Florian has achieved the best result in the team’s history at the Tour de France, also winning the white jersey for the first time. This is another step on the way to eventually winning the yellow jersey.”
And yes, the now-iconic selfie with Pogacar on the Paris podium? Lipowitz got that too.
Onley’s Breakthrough: “It Sparked a Dream”
While Lipowitz stood on the podium, 22-year-old Oscar Onley missed it by mere seconds, but walked away with a breakthrough Tour. Riding for Picnic PostNL, Onley proved his GC credentials and earned the respect of the peloton.
“It’s been a really special three weeks,” Onley said in Paris. “This is a huge moment in my career. I had never even considered finishing top five in the Tour. To do it in my first go at the GC… that’s pretty incredible.”
Lipowitz in His Own Words
“I’ve always believed in myself.”
“I didn’t know if I’d ever ride the Tour de France. Now I’m on the podium. It’s a dream come true. I learned a lot this Tour. I had goosebumps when I saw my name painted on the roads.”
“I can be proud of myself, but also of the team. We worked very well together and fought hard until the end. It’s very special.”
