Jasper Philipsen, the winner of Stage 1 and initial green and yellow jersey holder, was forced to abandon during Stage 3’s intermediate sprint after being brought down by Bryan Coquard. The incident also took down several others.

Philipsen underwent successful surgery on his collarbone and AC joint at AZ Herentals. Alpecin-Deceuninck confirmed the outcome, thanking the medical team, while teammate Tadej Pogačar expressed sadness on social media:

Filippo Ganna First to Exit the 2025 Tour

Filippo Ganna became the first rider to abandon the Tour after crashing heavily on Stage 1 in a collision with Sean Flynn. Despite attempting to ride on, concussion symptoms forced his withdrawal before the stage’s conclusion.

INEOS Grenadiers later confirmed the seriousness of the incident, with Ganna’s time trial hopes dashed. Sport director Zak Dempster remarked:

“It’s disappointing but his health comes first. He’s a bit sore but okay otherwise.”

Mattia Cattaneo Withdraws After Stage 7 Struggle

Mattia Cattaneo had been battling a knee injury from Stage 4, but ultimately the lingering effects proved too much, and he withdrew on Stage 7. Team Soudal–Quick-Step confirmed he was taken to hospital post-stage, where scans thankfully ruled out serious injuries.

“We’ll miss ‘Catta’ in the team and wish him a smooth and speedy recovery.”
